New ultra-shallow workboat delivered to Acta Marine

4 September 2009

On September 4th, 2009 Acta Marine has taken delivery of their latest newbuilt workboat, named Coastal Discovery. The new ship measures 35 by 12 meters with the superstructure situated on one side of the vessel, thus creating a very large open work deck.

The vessel is equipped with a 200 tons/meter crane and a 50 tons winch. Propulsion power is being provided by 3 engines of 600 hp each. Also the bow thruster is driven by an identical engine. A unique feature for this type of vessel is the Dynamic Positioning installation, ensuring highly accurate manoeuvring and allowing the vessel to keep offshore position without the use of anchors. The operational draft of only 1.4 meters makes the Coastal Discovery most suitable for jobs near-shore and in ultra-shallow waters. Onboard accommodation is being provided for up to 12 persons in 7 cabins.

Immediately upon delivery, the Coastal Discovery left for her first assignment in the province of Zeeland, the Netherlands. There she will assist dredging vessels working on a beach replenishment project.
