Chief Engineer
As Chief Engineer, you will hold primary responsibility for the technical performance and reliability of the vessel, leading the engineering team and ensuring that all systems and equipment are operated and maintained to the highest standards. In full compliance with safety, maritime, and environmental regulations, you will optimize technical operations to support safe and efficient vessel performance.
Representing Acta Marine, you will collaborate closely with the Master, clients, and relevant authorities, while ensuring that all technical activities align with Acta Marine’s Integrated Management System and company policies. You will oversee the engineering department, providing expert guidance, supervision, and coordination to ensure operational excellence at all times.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise engine room personnel and conduct their annual assessments.
- Manage the planned maintenance system for main and auxiliary equipment in collaboration with the Technical Superintendent.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with safety, ISM, and ISPS regulations onboard.
- Oversee fuel figures and bunker requirements for incorporation into stability calculations.
- Plan repairs in coordination with the Master and Technical Superintendent.
- Implement Acta Marine’s Integrated Management System, company policies, and Ship Security Plan.
- Optimize the continuity and production of the vessel while maintaining cost efficiency.
- Ensure technical documentation is up-to-date and well-maintained.
- Mentor and familiarize engine room crew with technical operations and procedures.
Required Skills and Competences
- Identifies the desires and needs of our clients and acts accordingly considering the costs and benefits for Acta Marine.
- Giving direction to the crew in a result-oriented way by formulating clear goals, monitor the progress and correct crew if necessary.
- Works effectively towards a common goal, also in cases when it does not serve a personal interest.
- Understands and uses safe working practices and personal shipboard safety procedures at any time.
- Communicates effectively with all personnel involved in operations. Adjusts communication to the level of the other person. Managing personal emotions and stress.
Who are we looking for?
- Certification in accordance with relevant STCW Code (III/2) and Flag State regulations.
- At least 3 years experience as a Chief Engineer with Diesel Electric and DP systems.
- Experience with mission equipment such as W2W gangways and motion-compensated offshore cranes is preferred.
- Familiarity with Planned Maintenance Systems, particularly MARAD, is an advantage.
